Why “the wall st. artist?”
I started creating at the age of 4 in my grandmother’s storefront in Greenwood, Tulsa on “Black Wall Street.”. I learned way more in that summer than i could’ve imagined. When I finally decided it was time to get serious about my art, 20 years later, I was working in New York City a few blocks away from the New York Stock Exchange at Morgan Stanley. Somehow it all came full circle. [Believe it or not, the opening night of my very first exhibition in New York was on the same grandmother’s birthday.]
Description of Your Platform - How would you describe your artwork? Are you a Painter, Photographer, Creative, Hobbyist etc.? What are your mediums for creating? What should people know about your work?
I’m most prominently known as a visual artist. I’ve been sketching/drawing since elementary school and have been painting since high school. Over the past 2/3 years I’ve also picked up photography, curating art exhibits, event production and writing as additional creative outlets.
Inspiration - Where do you get your inspiration? Who are some of your favorite Artists? Is there a specific cause you are creating for or issue you are addressing with your work? (eg. themes like environmental awareness, family, diversity, etc)
The inspiration for my work comes from all over in terms of aesthetics, but in terms of content I’m specifically focused on the Black American narrative. To date some of my biggest influences have been Black music (hip hop, rap and r&b), the Black community, and my family. Some of my favorite visual artist are Jean Michel Basquiat, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Jim Carey, and Kehinde Wiley.
